Announcements + Updates

  1. Missed out on tickets for DERTFest on November 10th? Still looking to get your fix of DER nerdery before the year is over? Well, you’re in luck! The DERTFest After After Party is where you really want to be anyway, and tickets are still available! Snag yours before they’re gone!

  2. While the in-person DERTFest is happening in Brooklyn, our Bay Area friends are throwing a sister event the evening of DERTFest! Come hang out with Kristen Frick, Thomas Lee, and the rest of the Bay Area squad at The Double Standard in Oakland. The meetup starts at 6pm and Derapi has generously offered to sponsor drinks! Rumor has it there may even be some fun energy trivia or a few rounds of Power Grid, the world's best board game. Check out the #bayarea Slack channel for more!

  3. On the eve of DERTFest, the Boston crew will be hosting their own happy hour! The details: meet up at 6pm at Nightshift Brewing (at Lovejoy Wharf) for drinks. Check out the #Boston channel in Slack for more, and h/t to Chris Hitzel for organizing!

From the community

The #DMV meetup was a success! Big shouts to Ben Shell for organizing and hope to see these continue!

DER Task Force goes global

In less local news, DER Task Force is truly Mr. Worldwide — we’ve made it all the way to Japan! Welcome to new member Bobby Okinaka based in Kochi Prefecture, Shikoku, Japan. Bobby is on a mission to set up a microgrid in a remote mountain village in his area. The Task Force is at your service as you embark on this mission!

What we’re reading + watching

For all the Taco Bell fans out there, you now have one more reason to love this iconic fast food brand. Taco Bell, in partnership with ChargeNet (their CTO Rebecca Wolkoff is a regular in the DER Task Force Slack!) is now enabling its customers to “get an EV charge and a chalupa all in one easy stop.” What could be better? Read the full article here.

It’s official — the very first episode of DER Projects with Rusty is live! Watch it here. A huge thank you to Ethan and Emmett Smith and their families for telling us the incredible story of Azure Mountain Power and the history behind the community hydro plant. Know of an awesome DERs project or other piece of distributed infrastructure worth highlighting? Reach out to us in the Slack and we may feature it on an episode of DER Projects with Rusty!
